Lesson Plan Supplemental Materials

In this lesson there are three activities. First off I will start the lesson by presenting a prezi of "we are going on a bear hunt". I will let them know that they can sing along with the prezi. They will then go on a scavenger hunt outside in the playground. Using their iPad's they will take pictures of what they find. Later I will combined the best items and help them make a new scavenger hunt for the following day. Also after they find their items and remember where its located I will let them use doddle buddy app on their iPad's and draw a map of where its located.

The three activities using technology:
1.Prezi

One the first day of the lesson I will introduce them to "We are going on a bear hunt" song on youtube. I will then present them my prezi that I created and sing along with them.

2. Making a scavenger hunt
After we finishing singing the bear hunt song I will then explain to the children that we are going outside to go on a scavenger hunt. I will tell them to grab their iPad's and take pictures of items they find. The we will combined all the items and pick the best ones and then we will go on the website and make a scavenger hunt list using http://www.quickhunts.com/free-scavenger-hunt-list.html.

In the photo above I created a random list of items that may be found on a scavenger hunt as an example.

3. Doddle Buddy
I will make sure the iPad's have doddle buddy downloaded on it for the children to use.
I will let the children work together if they wanted to make a map drawing of the scavenger hunt. They can work together to located where the items are at and they can draw arrows and lines to help them located the items.

PicMonkey

PicMonkey is a photo editing application. I love using photo editing for photos. They turn boring photos to beautiful ones. I have a lot of experience using photo editing apps for using PicMonkey was easy. I did not like that the options with the great additions you had to be a member in order to add them. Other then that I enjoyed using PicMonkey, I will definitely use it again.

Growing up Online

1. A survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project found that in 2004, 67 percent of parents said the Internet has been a good thing for their children. However, this number decreased to 59 percent in 2006. In 2012, 69% of parents of online teens said they were concerned about how their child’s online activity might affect their future academic or employment opportunities, with some 44% being “very” concerned. Cite some reasons why parental support for their children’s independent internet use is decreasing. Why do you think the number of parents who reported the Internet being a good thing for their children has decreased?
I believe that parental support for their children's independent internet use is decreasing because their are many social media applications out right now. Some parents can't keep up with all the different social media apps out there that their child is using. Because their children have more knowledge about technology they can hide information from their parents.
2. More teachers are using tools to try to detect cheating or deter students’ inclination to cheat. In the program, we see the use of plagiarism-detection tools like Turnitin.com and writing assignments completed during class time to make sure students do their own work and generate their own ideas.

How can we as educators stop students from using material they found online as their own work? Should that be considered cheating, in your opinion?
In my opinion I like the idea of turnitin.com. On the internet there is alot of information and answers that a student can easily copy and paste on to their assignment. With turnitin.com it can help teachers know if the paper was plagerized or if information was copied. I also like that in the video it talked about doing assignments in class. When doing assignments in class, students are forced to write then and there. Unlike being home and looking up answers online.
3. One student claims he "never reads books" but relies on summaries and annotated notes he finds on Web sites. He confesses that he feels guilty about this, stating, "I feel like I kind of cheated it."

In your opinion, should he feel guilty? Why or why not?
In my opinion I believe he should feel guilty. Relying on summaries and annotated notes from the internet will not help you learn the material. Reading summaries aren't the same as reading the book, the point of reading books in school is to educate ourselves. Going online and finding answers won't help us.

4. Before the Internet, in order to be seen by the world, you had to be portrayed in some form of mass media, and you had to be famous in some respect -- in the news, in politics or as a celebrity. Now anyone can be seen online by anyone else in the world. Some people have become famous for videos or photos they’ve posted (such as Autumn Edows).

In your opinion, should people like Edows, or others who become “ famous” through their online presence, be considered “celebrities?”
Has the ability to create an online persona, and receive worldwide attention for it, affected our cultural values?
In my opinion people like Edows are considered famous. I know a lot of people who became famous from Instagram, twitter or Facebook by the things they post. Some of those people were popular to begin with.
5. Shows like "To Catch a Predator" on Dateline NBC (http://www.nbcnews.com/id/10912603/ns/dateline_nbc-to_catch_a_predator/) contribute to parental anxiety about online media. It is obvious that certain elements of programs like “To Catch a Predator,” and even this documentary, will likely increase parents’ fears.

Cite one current event from the past year where a young person has been affected (positively or negatively) by being active online. (find a link to a news story, describe it in your answer to this question, and provide the link as well).
http://fox17online.com/2015/07/21/mom-cyber-bullying-killed-my-daughter/
Zoe Johnson was 13 years old, she was a victim of cyber bulling. July 6th she ended her life, her mother believed that her suicide was caused by cyber bullies. There was a post on Facebook that she was tagged on a day before she passed, it was a picture saying "tag a b***h you don't like". The posts continued even after her death, someone posted "good ur gone." This was proof that she was being bullied.

6. Teasing, lying, gossiping, threatening, spreading rumors or harassing online (and offline)can severely affect people’s self-concept and self-esteem and have an impact on their emotional state. In the program, we see one girl who describes flirting with boys and then revealing she was just kidding. She explains: "You wouldn’t do that to someone’s face, but online is completely different. ... No one can do anything. You’re at your house, they’r e at their house."

In her quote, this teen is describing Suler’s disinhibition effects. Which one do you think it is, and why?
The teen is describing invisibility from the Suler's disinhibition effects. I believe this because she says that the person wouldn't do that to someone's face but online is different. In the invisibility effect people can know who you are but they can't hear or see you and you can't see or hear them.
7. At the end of the program, Greg decides it’s time for him to "disconnect" by going to the Coast Guard Academy, where he will spend seven weeks without cell phones or the Internet.

Have you ever thought about "disconnecting" from it all?
Do you think it would be easy or difficult for you personally?
What would you enjoy or dislike about disconnecting?
I have never thought about disconnecting from it all because nowadays it all seems normal that everything is online that is where you get most of your info. I think it will be difficult to disconnect from everything. I don't think I can live without internet. When I travel overseas the first couple of days is tough because there isn't any phone service until I get wifi or a sim card. But I still seem to survive. I would enjoy the peace from the disconnection, but I would hate not knowing what is going on around me.

Pinterest in the Classroom

1.What did you learn from the PINTEREST activity?
  • I usually use pinterest to search for an activity or idea. I learned how to pin a web page, picture, etc. When I found something I liked I repinned it, I didn't know how to pin things.
2.How do you believe you will utilize PINTEREST as a teacher?
  • I believe that I will use Pinterest. It is a very useful website for teacher, it includes activities, tips, important information, and many more.

3.What are the strengths of PINTEREST?
  • One strength is that it is very organized, it has different categories. Another strength is that it generates what your interested in, for example when you first sign up it lets you pick what your interests are.
4.What are some of the challenges of PINTEREST?
  • One challenge is that it can be very addictive to use. Once you find a topic you are interested in you look on pinterest and finds many things. Another challenge is that you might find an activity you are interested in but there is no directions to it.

5.What comments, questions, thoughts, opinions, and/or feedback do you have about PINTEREST?
  • I really enjoy using pinterest. I can spend hours on it, it motivates me to do things like activities and provides info on certain things.

Khan/Koller Review

Khan Academy
1. When you visited the site, was it something you envisioned using yourself?
When visiting the site I really enjoyed the flow of it. Everything was organized and easy to find. I definitely envision myself using this site, it looks very helpful.
2. Is it something you could imagine encouraging your students to use?
I would definitely encourage my students to use Khan Academy. It gives them a different teaching style to learn from.
3. After perusing some of the videos on the site, did you think they were easy to follow and learn from?
I thought that the videos were easy to follow and learn from. I learned something new just from browsing through the videos. I believe the videos are clear and helpful.
4. Do you believe that Salman Khan is right when he says that in the future, we will rely more on "credentialing" through the use of online courses? Do you think this style of education makes learning more accessible for more students? If so, why? If not, Why?
I believe Salman Khan is right when he said that in the future we will rely more on credentialing through the use of online courses. I do believe that this style of education makes learning more accessible for more students because students have access to it online. In case they did not understand in class lectures they can use online for help.

Coursera
1. When you explore the coursera course offerings, what course looks most interesting to you?
One course that interested me while browsing through the site is the iOS App Development with swift specialization.
2. Does Columbus State accept Coursera transfer credits?
Columbus State does not accept Coursera transfer credits.

3. Do Coursera courses appear to be more challenging or more interesting thank those you've experienced before? If yes, why? If not, why? Either way, could your opinion have something to do with WHO is teaching the Coursera courses?
Coursera courses appear to be more interesting than I have experienced because it allows you to access the lectures whenever also helps you throughout the lecture and quizzes you mid-lecture. I don't think my opinion can have something to do with who is teaching the course.

4. Do you think that MOOCs (massive open online courses) are the "wave of the future"? How do you think MOOCs might change the way a student like you would receive their education?
I do think that MOOCs are the wave of the future. I think it will change the way a student can receive their education by helping college student benefit from taking online courses.

ORC Lesson Plan

Grade and subject area
The grade level is pre-k and kindergarten. The subject area is mathematics. In this lesson plan children will get to learn how tall they are and how tall their classmates are. The tallest in the class starts measuring first then the second tallest in the class all the way to the shortest in the class. The link below is the lesson plan,

Ohio Early Learning Content Standard
This lesson plan is characterized in under the Number, Number Sense and Operations for Early Childhood and also the Measurement for Early Childhood.

I would implement this lesson in my classroom when all my students are present. I will make sure everyone is there the day I do this activity. I will also extend this lesson by measuring the children after a month or so. One part I think that will pose a problem is that the shortest children might feel a little short compare to other classmates. The only challenge is to try to keep the children still while measuring them.

Assistive Technology for Student With Autism

Autism is a complex developmental disability. Autism is cause by autism risk genes and environmental factor that were interfered with the early brain development. Over the past 40 year autism has increased, up to a point were technology helped diagnose it and more research is recognizing autism. Students with autism develop differently. Their learning is unpredictable, a student with autism might learn things quicker than other students. Or they might be slower at learning something and have a hard time with it. The struggles students with autism might have is speech. Students with autism tend to have a delayed speech. They also struggle with is social skills. They have a hard time interacting with another socially. If the student is severely autistic they might not even acknowledge the person.
One of the best assistive technology for autism is the iPad. The iPad is a really helpful device for students with autism. There are many reasons why the iPad is effective. One reason why is because the device is hands-on, the student can carry the iPad where ever they want. Another reason is that the keyboard is on the screen and the students don't have to take their eyes off the screen to type, some students might have difficulties with that.

When students are using the iPad's it allows them to communicate if they aren't verbal. If they are still learning to speak the iPad can have apps that have pictures of words and letters that may help the child to learn more. Students with autism have a mind full of imagery and the iPad can allow the student to create sentences with images to help communicate to their parents, care givers, etc. The app store provides many different apps to help students with autism. The downsides of getting an iPad is that it is very expensive to get for some parents who may not be able to afford it. Also the iPad's need to be charged when the battery runs out, some students might not understand why the iPad died which can lead to meltdowns until it's finished charging.

In the near future, I believe technology will improve. Although iPad's are very helpful for students with autism right now, I believe in the future they will come up with a device specifically for people with autism. Technology has already taking over in the classrooms but teachers still have not mastered in it. In the future the teacher will understand the technology more and that will help them teach the students.

Ohio DL Schools

Listed below are five DL schools.
Connections Academy
http://virtualschoolhouse.org/
ECOT
Ohio Virtual Academy
Virtual Community School of Ohio

Out of the five online schools I would chose is Ohio Virtual Academy. I found the website to be very easy and straight forward. I really like that the website was organized, as I was browsing I didn't have trouble finding information. They offered step by step instructions on how to enroll. I really like that this school offers students activities and clubs. That helps the students socially given that this is an online school.

Out of the five I would not choose is Virtual School House. While looking through their website I felt lost. If I was a parent enrolling my child I wouldn't know where to start. I feel like out of all the websites this one did not provide a lot of info on the programs and services.

My prezi

This is my prezi. My intended audience is for parents, coworkers, and students. In my prezi it explains my educational background. It includes what age/grade level I am interested in teaching, which is preschool. In my prezi I added article on why preschool is the most important year. Also I put a video explaining the day in the life of a preschool teacher. It explains what a preschooler should do and have. I included my hobbies, and also my future teaching goals.

I have used prezi once but it was during my freshman year in high school, I forgotten how to use it. I really enjoy using prezi but it is a bit time consuming. I love that you can create a variety of different slides that PowerPoint don't provide, it allows you to be creative. I did not like how time consuming it can be making a prezi compared to a PowerPoint. But if i use it more often and get the hang of it I don't think that it would take too much time.

Three Great Teacher Blogs

The first great teacher blog is Kreative in Kinder. This blog is amazing! Crystal is a kindergarten teacher. I chose this blog because she is a very creative teacher. She posts art work the children, helpful games and learning activities involving math. I also liked that she posted fact to parents. For example, one of her post was about the importance of sleep for young children. She talked about how sleeping late can effect the child's learning in school. Also says that parents should limit the time of children watching TV, or playing video games before bedtime.

The second great teacher blog is Fairy Dust Teaching. I really like this blog because it is Reggio-inspired preschool. I like how they Incorporate nature and recycled materials. One post I really enjoyed is the Teaching Children How to “Make Their World”. In the post it talked about how children that create and think for themselves are usually one step ahead of those who are usually finish what someone has already started doing for them.

The third great teacher blog is The Kindergarten Cafeteria. I chose this blog because I really enjoyed it. In the blog it has post that uses food with activities. Using food in activities and art can really help the children be engaged and excited about it. In the blog there is a lot of science experiments. Science is very important for young learners, it allows them to question thing and how they work. It also helps them with their patience. It can also help spark ideas in children's minds.

Welcome to my blog

My name is Tassnime Chouika, I am an infant teacher at a child-care center. I really enjoy working with young children and watching them grow intellectually. I am currently in the Early Childhood Program at Columbus State Community College. I hope to graduate with my associates by spring of 2017. My interests and hobbies are traveling and baking. I love to travel! I have been to many different countries around the world. I hope to teach overseas at Dubai. I would like to teacher english at a preschool in Dubai.

My goals as an educator is to teach children to have a love for learning. I want to make learning fun so I can keep the children engaged in their studies. Another goal is to teach children not to be afraid of learning new things but to expand their minds. As a teacher I would like to accomplish a safe classroom where children can learn, explore, create, and grow.
