Khan/Koller Review

Khan Academy
1. When you visited the site, was it something you envisioned using yourself?
When visiting the site I really enjoyed the flow of it. Everything was organized and easy to find. I definitely envision myself using this site, it looks very helpful.
2. Is it something you could imagine encouraging your students to use?
I would definitely encourage my students to use Khan Academy. It gives them a different teaching style to learn from.
3. After perusing some of the videos on the site, did you think they were easy to follow and learn from?
I thought that the videos were easy to follow and learn from. I learned something new just from browsing through the videos. I believe the videos are clear and helpful.
4. Do you believe that Salman Khan is right when he says that in the future, we will rely more on "credentialing" through the use of online courses? Do you think this style of education makes learning more accessible for more students? If so, why? If not, Why?
I believe Salman Khan is right when he said that in the future we will rely more on credentialing through the use of online courses. I do believe that this style of education makes learning more accessible for more students because students have access to it online. In case they did not understand in class lectures they can use online for help.

Coursera
1. When you explore the coursera course offerings, what course looks most interesting to you?
One course that interested me while browsing through the site is the iOS App Development with swift specialization.
2. Does Columbus State accept Coursera transfer credits?
Columbus State does not accept Coursera transfer credits.

3. Do Coursera courses appear to be more challenging or more interesting thank those you've experienced before? If yes, why? If not, why? Either way, could your opinion have something to do with WHO is teaching the Coursera courses?
Coursera courses appear to be more interesting than I have experienced because it allows you to access the lectures whenever also helps you throughout the lecture and quizzes you mid-lecture. I don't think my opinion can have something to do with who is teaching the course.

4. Do you think that MOOCs (massive open online courses) are the "wave of the future"? How do you think MOOCs might change the way a student like you would receive their education?
I do think that MOOCs are the wave of the future. I think it will change the way a student can receive their education by helping college student benefit from taking online courses.

ORC Lesson Plan

Grade and subject area
The grade level is pre-k and kindergarten. The subject area is mathematics. In this lesson plan children will get to learn how tall they are and how tall their classmates are. The tallest in the class starts measuring first then the second tallest in the class all the way to the shortest in the class. The link below is the lesson plan,

Ohio Early Learning Content Standard
This lesson plan is characterized in under the Number, Number Sense and Operations for Early Childhood and also the Measurement for Early Childhood.

I would implement this lesson in my classroom when all my students are present. I will make sure everyone is there the day I do this activity. I will also extend this lesson by measuring the children after a month or so. One part I think that will pose a problem is that the shortest children might feel a little short compare to other classmates. The only challenge is to try to keep the children still while measuring them.

Assistive Technology for Student With Autism

Autism is a complex developmental disability. Autism is cause by autism risk genes and environmental factor that were interfered with the early brain development. Over the past 40 year autism has increased, up to a point were technology helped diagnose it and more research is recognizing autism. Students with autism develop differently. Their learning is unpredictable, a student with autism might learn things quicker than other students. Or they might be slower at learning something and have a hard time with it. The struggles students with autism might have is speech. Students with autism tend to have a delayed speech. They also struggle with is social skills. They have a hard time interacting with another socially. If the student is severely autistic they might not even acknowledge the person.
One of the best assistive technology for autism is the iPad. The iPad is a really helpful device for students with autism. There are many reasons why the iPad is effective. One reason why is because the device is hands-on, the student can carry the iPad where ever they want. Another reason is that the keyboard is on the screen and the students don't have to take their eyes off the screen to type, some students might have difficulties with that.

When students are using the iPad's it allows them to communicate if they aren't verbal. If they are still learning to speak the iPad can have apps that have pictures of words and letters that may help the child to learn more. Students with autism have a mind full of imagery and the iPad can allow the student to create sentences with images to help communicate to their parents, care givers, etc. The app store provides many different apps to help students with autism. The downsides of getting an iPad is that it is very expensive to get for some parents who may not be able to afford it. Also the iPad's need to be charged when the battery runs out, some students might not understand why the iPad died which can lead to meltdowns until it's finished charging.

In the near future, I believe technology will improve. Although iPad's are very helpful for students with autism right now, I believe in the future they will come up with a device specifically for people with autism. Technology has already taking over in the classrooms but teachers still have not mastered in it. In the future the teacher will understand the technology more and that will help them teach the students.

Ohio DL Schools

Listed below are five DL schools.
Connections Academy
http://virtualschoolhouse.org/
ECOT
Ohio Virtual Academy
Virtual Community School of Ohio

Out of the five online schools I would chose is Ohio Virtual Academy. I found the website to be very easy and straight forward. I really like that the website was organized, as I was browsing I didn't have trouble finding information. They offered step by step instructions on how to enroll. I really like that this school offers students activities and clubs. That helps the students socially given that this is an online school.

Out of the five I would not choose is Virtual School House. While looking through their website I felt lost. If I was a parent enrolling my child I wouldn't know where to start. I feel like out of all the websites this one did not provide a lot of info on the programs and services.

My prezi

This is my prezi. My intended audience is for parents, coworkers, and students. In my prezi it explains my educational background. It includes what age/grade level I am interested in teaching, which is preschool. In my prezi I added article on why preschool is the most important year. Also I put a video explaining the day in the life of a preschool teacher. It explains what a preschooler should do and have. I included my hobbies, and also my future teaching goals.

I have used prezi once but it was during my freshman year in high school, I forgotten how to use it. I really enjoy using prezi but it is a bit time consuming. I love that you can create a variety of different slides that PowerPoint don't provide, it allows you to be creative. I did not like how time consuming it can be making a prezi compared to a PowerPoint. But if i use it more often and get the hang of it I don't think that it would take too much time.
